以布魯克林為據點的藝術家KAWS(本名BrianDonnelly),1974年生於紐澤西。
繪畫、素描、雕刻等作品在許許多多美術館或畫廊都有展出。
另外他還有平面設計藝術家的身分,他所企畫的玩具、潮流服飾擁有許多粉絲追求之外,在世界的舞台上,也以商品設計家的身分為人所知。
在故鄉紐澤西1990年代他首度以平面設計藝術家身分嶄露頭角,之後於SchoolofVisualArts繼續進修(1993~1996),在進修過程中他將焦點轉向於看板廣告、公車亭、公用電話等公共廣告上塗鴉,也因此活動也轉向了「公共介入」。
這也成為他與商業攝影師、廣告設計師等合作的開端,由此所創作出的原創藝術作品,也在許多人眼中留下的印象。
KAWS的作品輕而易舉地橫跨在廣告藝術及當代藝術兩個領域間。作品從平面設計、產品到商業設計,繪畫、素描、雕刻、壁畫、絹印等,以多種的樣貌呈現。
藝術史脈絡上來說,KAWS所吸取的是普普藝術的流行趨向,他最近在從事的創作是被抽象化後的漫畫繪畫作品,這些作品有參考大眾文化及現代表現主義的歷史脈絡。
他的作品綜合了具象與抽象的元素,也反映著當代文化混亂無秩序的特性。
最近他除了公開在ModernArtMuseumofFortWorth(德州 沃斯堡)所展出的雕刻作品「COMPANION(PASSINGTHROUGH)」之外;同時一樣「COMPANION」系列的人形作品,將其製作成40尺的氣球,並且以此參與了Macy’s感恩節遊行(11月)。在喬治亞州的HighMuseumofArt也舉辦了大型回顧展「DownTime」。
