Message from the Artist

This exhibition primarily focuses on landscape paintings. The countless sounds, infinite colors, organic lines and spaces created by nature. she makes me feel the origin of the universe and her overwhelming presence. This exhibition is the pursuance of the realism felt when facing nature.

A line stroked on a canvas, countless colors, following paint. At times this is an attempt to strip myself from all.

Statement

I have been creating paintings with “ichigo ichie” (treasure every meeting, for it will never recur) as my main theme and nature and portraits as my motifs. “Ichigo ichie” is the concept of cherishing each encounter or relationship that may occur just once in one’s lifetime.

This is a classical Japanese idea. This time, for the new series, I have taken on abstract paintings with landscape as their motif. I am painting these works as though I am engraving the ever-changing sound, color, rhythm, composition, and light that I sense from the nature.

By engraving the nature with paint pigments and creating a world with my work, I intend to face the world in this very moment and produce what I can make only now by way of leaving my mark.
The other day, I visited Savernake Forest and Stonehenge. I was overwhelmed by the infinity the nature seemed to create and the sense of universe these places invoked. When I faced my canvases to give expressions to these, I felt no need to construct forms and silhouettes as I normally would when I paint. I ended up composing these works only with colors and lines.

The infinite number of colors, compositions by lines, and the weight of paint as an object embody the universe itself; they are extremely realistic. And they let me soar endlessly. This is the reason why I focused on the abstract painting series for this show.

When I paint, I am able to go absolutely anywhere that tolerates my existence. A painting is a painting, pure and simple, so I would like to accept this fact and aspire to elevate myself to an ever greater hight as someone who expresses creatively. The collapse and cultivation that occur between myself and what I face, the balance between beings—these things embody endless freedom whether today, in the past, or in the future.
